The Team

Elizabeth Ging (Liz)

Owner/Race Director

Liz has been running ultramarathons since she was 14 years old and credits her love of running to her dad, Roger Ging, who has been her running buddy and constant encouragement. In 2013 she ran the Flagstaff 50k hosted by Aravaipa and decided she needed to move to Flagstaff. Since making this town her home, it has been her dream to create an ultramarathon that displays the beauty of the Northern Arizona’s mountains.

Roger Ging

Assistant Race Director

Roger started running ultramarathons in 2005. He fell in love with the town when he camped here with his family at 9 years old and decided that he would like to live here one day. In 2016 he made that dream a reality and has built his own home here. In his spare time, he likes to hike, off-road motorcycle, camp, and help his kids with their various endeavors (like building houses and creating ultramarathons).

Beth Irvine (Emi)

Emi and Liz got engaged in 2022. Emi is an endless support in creating an ultrarunning company, and a true adventurer in her own right. Always up for adventure, she loves to hike, camp, and backpack. Her off-trail hikes into the backcountry of the Southwest sometimes make trail runs look like a walk in the park.

Scout (Pupmaster general)

Official Pup of Back to the Roots Running

Scout joined Liz and Emi in 2021. She is the ultimate companion, hiking/running buddy, and tennis ball chaser. She’s excited to meet you out on the trails!
